So this list are LPs I own listed in Pokora's book series, all my copies are originals as described in the books. The ratings apply to the time these books were published and would have likely changed now.
Yes, this is considerably harder to find than Mass-Media Stars. I love how the cover to their debut folds into a poster. Given how much original German swirl Vertigo copies are going, I'm a bit surprised at the low disc rating Pokora gives here.
Still a great album of Krautrock, perhaps a bit more refined than many others. Although there are a few American prog bands that got on major labels, like Kansas Kirschner distributed by CBS , Starcastle Epic , Ethos Capitol , and Happy the Man Arista , or on a small label but had excellent distribution, like Fireballet on Passport, in which many of the titles on that label can be found for next to nothing used , a good portion of them are private presses or on tiny labels Cathedral, Babylon, Surprise, Harlequin Mass, Earthrise, Netherworld, Easter Island, etc.
Albatross hailed from the same town as Cheap Trick, Rockford, Illinois, and like another Illinois band, the far easier to find Starcastle, they've been frequently compared to Yes that pipe organ is certainly a blantant cop of "Close to the Edge" , although Albatross has more punch, their vocalist reminds me more of Max Werner of Kayak than of Jon Anderson or Starcastle's Terry Luttrell. I guess since Starcastle was already on a major label, the major labels probably couldn't handle yet another Yes-type of band so this ended up on the tiny Anvil label.
Apparently many unsold copies were destroyed, guaranteeing its rarity. I couldn't imagine many copies being sold outside of local Rockford record stores.
An album like this is unsurprisingly featured in one of Pokora's books, as a three disc rarity. Original Danish pressing on the Sonet label. While not easy to find, it's not the most difficult to find either, if you look in the right places thank you, Internet, I would have not amassed as many rare and obscure LPs if it weren't for the Net!
Even some bands that have terrible reputations Amon Duul being often referred to as the worst Krautrock band ever get into his books. Really, though, this one is pretty good, even to those who don't like their other releases. I didn't expect Amon Duul to have the talent or skill of their far more musically accomplished Amon Duul II, but this is still quite good.
This one truly has amazing packaging. An album like this has to be listed in one of his books and it does. Makes sense when there were only copies of the original Divox International label were pressed. That mistake was fixed on the Musea reissue. Still rare but I doubt copies rare. Strange, one-shot French album.
This band was formed by a couple of Magma fans, and though there is a Magma influence, they're hardly a Magma clone as they don't have a full-on drummer, and tend to a more spacy, electronic approach. Oh yeah, and only 1, copies were pressed, apparently about half of them destroyed shame! This album certainly deserves to be in his book, and it does. Too strange for more mainstream prog collectors that's for sure, but that's what I love about this album. Of course many of the Ohr titles are going to be included in his book, given many of them are desirable by collectors. I never imagined seeing any BJH albums in his books given they're pretty common, sometimes ending up in thrift stores I bought my copy of Gone to Earth at a St.
Vincent de Paul in Eugene, Oregon.
I supposed it's because the early UK releases on Harvest are a little harder to get a hold of than the later ones on Polydor. Update: I believe Pokora was referring to the first pressing without the "EMI" logo on the label, as my copy is the second pressing with the "EMI" logo on it. I have the feeling someone placed a German swirl Vertigo disc into the UK cover, as my copy has the fold out cover, which the German copy does not the German copy does include a blurb that a poster was included , but the disc clearly states it was "Made in Germany", although, like many other UK swirl Vertigo titles of the time, bears the exact same catalog number in Germany as in the UK.
Unfortunately my original CBS copy is unplayable with frequent skips.
